A total of 8 districts in Bulgaria have declared flu epidemic to date: Yambol, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Gabrovo, Stara Zagora, Dobrich, Sofia district and Plovdiv.
Temporary anti-epidemic measures have been introduced in those districts.
School classes will be suspended in the district of Plovdiv from January 25 until January 31. Then on February 1, schools in the country close for a 5-day half-term break.
"In-person attendance classes and extracurricular activities are suspended. The morbidity rate among pupils has increased," said Dr Siyka Dimcheva, from the regional department of education in Plovdiv, told BNT on January 24.
She urged to limit gatherings of students indoors during the break.
Dr Siyka Dimcheva appealed for wearing masks in hospitals and pharmacies, regular airing the premises, and keeping a physical distance.
