GERB leader Borissov: Cabinet comments on Bulgaria’s entry into Schengen should not have been rushed
The leader of GERB party, Boyko Borissov, expressed hope that today (December 29) by noon, we will receive a document on Austria's support for Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen by air and sea. If this does not happen, the negotiations will continue in January. According to Borissov, yesterday's statements by the Bulgarian cabinet about support were premature.
Prime Minister confirms that Bulgaria will join Schengen by air and sea
Support from Austria: Bulgaria and Romania enter Schengen by air and sea from March 2024
"A rule applies in Brussels that 'until everything is agreed, nothing is agreed. The youth and lack of experience in governance played a bad joke in both Romania and Bulgaria. In fact, an enormous amount of work, which both the Council of Ministers, the National Assembly and Kiril Petkov and I in the committee have carried out, is now being questioned or given room for negative comments. Let us hope that today by noon, if we do not happen to get the document, figuratively speaking, all statements that were made by the cabinet, without a document, as I said last night, is not good in diplomacy. Rushed statements were not a good idea, but there is no point in going back. If it is not done by today, talks will go on in January. January is quite close to the elections in Austria, Borissov said and added that a lot of efforts are made and a lot of consultations take place.
