GERB leader Borissov: I warned that Bulgaria would go down an election spiral
I warned that Bulgaria will go down an election spiral, there will be nothing stable, we will deviate from all paths, GERB-UDF leader Boyko Borissov said on the sidelines of Parliament on June 27.
"We can't even form committees in Parliament, we can't even get one thing to work. This is all inherited and those to blame are those who started it. I warned at that time - Bulgaria will go down an election spiral, there will be nothing stable, we will go off all roads. It was started by "We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria", Bozhkov, Radev and all those who came to the square then (referring to the protests). The harvest is a total collapse of everything and not a single positive news for Bulgaria," the GERB-UDF leader was adamant.
"As for the eurozone - you have heard many times that during the time of GERB’s governments Bulgaria joined the European Banking Union. This is the technical adoption of the euro. And on January 1 a few years ago, together with Croatia, we would have been in the euro area. At that time, we also entered the waiting room, and that is when the protests started, which some people in this chamber are still proud of, and that is why there is no euro. During those three recent years - monstrous inflation," Borissov noted.
"At the moment we are in an election campaign rally. The other parties are totally irresponsible. If now, today, we had a stable government, dominated by us, it is a political decision for the euro area and we would take it. I can only say to the voters who support GERB that if we had more than 80 MPs we would not be having this conversation. Nobody wants to discuss the electoral system because it serves their interest to have many small parties. When GERB had more than 80 MPs I was responsible for forming a working cabinet. If now, in the next elections, our voters make an effort and we get more than 80 MPs, I will take responsibility," Borissov stressed.
Asked about his position for a government of experts on the third mandate, he said that “all this about the government of experts is rubbish”.
He said that it would be “most normal and most stable to have a Cabinet formed by the first, second and third political forces in Parliament, while the others have experts to represent them in the executive”.
"They would all be opposition. The most corrupt party calls itself "we are anti-corruption". And they say the others were corrupt. Everyone is talking without thinking.
It would be “most normal and most stable to have a cabinet formed by the first, second and third political forces in Parliament," Borissov said.
