GERB proposes changes to the Electoral Code

GERB (majority partner in the previous coalition government) parliamentary group on July 30 submitted to Parliament a draft amendment to the Electoral Code, which proposes the use of paper ballots or machine voting at the choice of voters.

The change also envisages that the voting machines and the software for them be 100% owned by the Bulgarian state, and the technical support in polling stations abroad during the voting be carried out by Bulgarian specialists or specialist who speak Bulgarian language.

"Our proposals are as follows: Full equality is introduced between voting with machine and paper ballots. In absolutely all polling stations there should be both machines and paper ballots. Voters should be given the right to choose what they want to vote with in order to stop this decline in turnout, which we witnessed. The technical devices for voting and the software should be the property of the Bulgarian state. And a requirement for counting all control receipts," said Radomir Cholakov from the centre-right GERB-UDF.
