GERB-UDF Leader Borissov: Speaker of Parliament should be from GERB
"The election of Speaker of Parliament will determine whether or not I will propose consultations at all and whether or not we will go for a cabinet-forming mandate,” GERB-UDF leader Boyko Borissov told a briefing on November 4.
With this "clear, resounding victory of GERB-UDF in the elections, parliamentarism requires that the Speaker of Parliament be from GERB. And if others decide to do political machinations, we will not participate in any talks," Borissov said.
Another comment, he said, is that GERB is dependent on Peevski, but this is "a lie that is repeated," he said.
"Will annulment of the elections change anything - will it enable the formation of a government? My decision will be the election of the Speaker of Parliament. Parliamentarism requires a Speaker of Parliament from GERB-UDF. GERB-UDF will not compromise in any way and on any issue with We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria."
The GERB-UDF leader said that the party, not he, would propose who it should be, but clarified that GERB has enough people who had proved they are suitable for the role of the speaker, such as both Rossen Zhelyazkov and Raya Nazaryan..
Borissov said he would never support a mandate of those "who say we are laughingstocks".
"I decided to make this briefing with a bit of concern because 10 days after the elections I hear reluctance to govern and to make a government," Boyko Borissov said.
He said political parties were looking for an excuse for the low turnout. The GERB leader showed his party’s results and made a retrospective of the GERB's percentages in past elections over the years, under different Ministers if Interior.
He noted that GERB secured between 60 and 69 MPs under all of them and added that the weakest result during Kalin Stoyanov's tenure.
"Or go straight to elections with the clear knowledge that this eighth election will have the same result."
"WCC-DB sent a statement to say Borissov and GERB are dependent on WCC-DB and if GERB want a government they have to squat, bend over, or there will be no government."
But when a party leader says Borissov being Prime Minister is a joke - I don't see why I should meet him, he added.
"When they keep talking to me about a Prime minister equally remote from all political parties, and they said they do not have such” - Borissov said he sees no point in seeing them.

He noted that there is no good faction of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), pointing out categorically that he would not work with any of them.
"I will not allow us to be dependent on Peevski or Dogan. The election of the Speaker of Parliament is important. With this result, if they start to make secret coalitions, you can safely write "Borisov is for the annulment of the elections" and rather not waste time in political machinations and go to new elections."
