GERB-UDF proposes a government that sets three main goals

President Rumen Radev on July 1 handed over the first government-forming mandate to Rosen Zhelyazkov - prime minister-designate of GERB-UDF.

GERB-UDF returned the first mandate fuilfilled. After the talks with the head of state, GERB-UDF announced that they set three main goals.

"We have taken into account what the Bulgarian citizens want. Everybody says it is bad to go to elections. That is why I am giving a scenario for the future. This is a GERB government with several ministers who are doing well in the caretaker government. This is a government that can share responsibility and this is a government in which GERB-UDF is fully responsible. If the government goes through thanks to a trick - whether some MPs choose not to come for the vote, or decide to back us but not as a party, not in a majority to fulfill our programme, then the government will have a very short life: not because somebody will bring it down but because we will walk out. In this short life, the only first and most important objective is to pass the budget, it must be updated and it must be passed. The other is the resilience plan, the EU funds. You know that by removing direct payments, we become a donor country to the EU, as a result of the last 2-3 years of governance. The eurozone entry is a political issue and if there is a government, I think we can make a progress. After accomplishing these tasks, then we can safely go to elections," said GERB leader Boyko Borissov.

"I turn to my colleagues from We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria, as well as to all others who say that they must reclaim their voters. Let them think about these few points if they want to talk about an agenda - we are here for them. Ministers are easy to change when you have a majority in Parliament. We are acting responsibly today and we are open to dialogue," Borissov stressed.

We Continue the Change co-leader, Kiril Petkov, wrote in a Facebook post on July 1 that they will not support a government of GERB and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) “which MRF leader Delyan Peevski dreams of, because the next reforms Bulgaria needs are impossible with those parties”.

Vazrazhdane party said earlier today that their position remains unchanged and their parlimanetray group will not support a cabinet of GERB-UDF and Movement for Rights and Freedoms.
