Geshev after demands for his resignation: The Prosecutor's office is doing its job well
After co-leader of "We Continue the Change", Kiril Petkov, called for the resignation of the chief prosecutor, Ivan Geshev, the chief prosecutor responded in an interview for "24 Hours" daily on December 6 by saying he would not resign because, according to him, the Prosecutor's office is doing its job well.
If Bulgarian politicians want the resignation of the chief prosecutor, it means only one thing - the Prosecutor's office is doing its job and it is doing it well. It would be worrying if politicians praised me and did not ask me to resign. The meaning of the separation of powers is that the judiciary and in particular the Prosecutor's office have nothing to do with other powers, and particularly with politicians outside their legal powers. Obviously, unfortunately, we have a long way to go before we become a true European country governed by the rule of law, because when the Prosecutor's office investigates chancellors, for example, they resign. While here one can violate the Constitution and eventually become chancellor and think that they are completely untouchable, as if the laws apply to ordinary citizens, but not to them, Geshev said and described those who attack him as a caste chosen by God in ancient Rome.
"It should be clear that the Prosecutor’s office will continue to strictly abide by the country's laws and will strive for Bulgaria to be a state governed by the rule of law, part of the European family, and not ancient Rome for a handful of God's chosen ones. We will try, as we have always done, to work only in the interest of the Bulgarian citizens and against those who harm their legal interests, Ivan Geshev said.
