Government survived a vote of no confidence

The Denkov-Gabriel cabinet survived a vote of no confidence on October 13.

71 MPs from the three opposition parties - "Vazrazhdane", Bulgarian Socialist Party and “There is Such a People” - voted to oust the government. The cabinet was supported by 143 MPs from GERB-UDF, We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

Last week, "Vazrazhdane", Bulgarian Socialist Party and “There is Such a People” tabled the first no-confidence motion against the current government, citing the cabinet's policies in the energy sector as the reason.

A vote is considered successful if more than half of all MPs vote in favour.

After the unsuccessful vote, MPs from the three petitioning parties presented their arguments:

"I voted in favour because corrupt politicians have no right to deprive us of coal energy. This government is making the problems worse. This government does not inspire confidence and stability. With this government and majority, justice is in the background," said Georgi Gyokov of the BSP.

There is no reason to be angry with the charlatans for being charlatans, said Stoyan Taslakov from "Vazrazhdane":

"You are working for the closure and destruction of Bulgarian energy. We should sue GERB and MRF. And when you go to the local elections think about how you will vote for this government."

Stanislav Balabanov from "There is Such a People" addressed some of the MPs by name:

- Mr. Petkov, will you look me in the eye? How do you feel today after Boyko Borisov(GERB leader) and Delyan Peevski (MRF) supported you? I see you were happy and clapping like a teenager.

- Mr Hristo Ivanov, look me in the eye. Now did you actually understand where the long arm of the MRF stroked you? How do you feel? I am asking you as a Bulgarian citizen with whom we were together in the protests in the squares

- Mr. Rashkov, how do you feel after you were used to arrest Boyko Borissov a year and a half ago, and today you pressed the button (to vote), and Hristo Ivanov, and Kiril Petkov and your whole clique continue to rule only because of two people - Delyan Peevski and Boyko Borissov.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister told journalists that the arguments for the vote were "completely fabricated" and politicians were "stoking people's fears" in order to agitate for the upcoming local elections.

The arguments for the vote of no confidence are completely fabricated, Denkov said

Yesterday Boyko Borissov said that GERB would support the government, the same was announced by the MRF. BSP chairperson Kornelia Ninova said that if the government survives, the left-wing will immediately start collecting signatures for a new vote of no confidence to be tabled next week. The topic will be national security and defence.
