The Director of the Customs Agency will prepare a unified strategy for traffic management and throughput at all border crossing points in the country. This was decided at an inter-agency meeting at the Ministry of Interior on September 4.
It was attended by the caretaker Ministers of Interior Atanas Ilkov; Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova; Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov; Deputy Minister of Transport Dimitar Nedyalkov; Director of the Customs Agency Georgi Dimov and Director of the Border Police General Directorate, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov.
During the meeting, it was noted that usually around 1 September there is a huge concentration of heavy goods vehicles and cars at the border crossings. In this context, urgent measures were discussed and identified to ease and shorten the time for vehicles to cross the border check points Lesovo, Kapitan Andreevo, Danube Bridge - Ruse and Danube Bridge - Vidin.
The caretaker ministers expressed their readiness to check the work of the subordinate officials on the spot and to analyse the implementation of the organisational measures taken.
During the meeting it was once again underlined that the biggest losses from Bulgaria not being admitted to Schengen area in terms of land borders are suffered by the Bulgarian road hauliers.
