Head of Military Medical Academy: Battle with Covid not won yet

I wouldn't say the battle with Covid is won yet, although I would very much like it to be over. Covid is not in the past yet at all. During World War I and World War II, the vast majority of those who died did not die on the battlefield, but died of infectious diseases, and so it was with the Spanish flu, the Head of Military Medical Academy, Gen. Dr. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski, told BNT breakfast show on December 1.

He explained that our country should be prepared for the emergence of new pandemics, as we will be exposed to unknown viruses. In a ranking of the preparedness of the countries in Europe to deal with a pandemic at the present moment and for the future - Bulgaria is in the second to last place, stressed Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiiski.

"I was very indignant during the pandemic when it was mockingly said - we will vaccinate mink keepers. Yes, we will vaccinate them because the mink turned out to be susceptible and when the virus goes into the mink we do not know how it can change", added Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiski.

According to him, a diagnostic unit has been set up at the MMA and it is attached to the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

"We have created the perfect clinic. The patient does not have to leave the hospital building to have a scan, X-ray, virological examination, including with the possibility of telemedicine. For the treatment of some infectious diseases, doctors do not have to be physically present," Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiski said.
