Investigation into death of Canadian soldier killed during parachute exercise

Investigation continues into the accident at Cheshnegirovo airport in Bulgaria during a multinational parachuting training exercise in which one Canadian paratrooper died and three other were injured.

The investigation is initiated to identify the causes of the death of the Canadian soldier, who is a member of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery.

During the night jumps his parachute did not open and he fell on the ground.

Bulgaria’s military prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the case.

A Canadian Military Police investigation has also been initiated.

Swift Response 2019 is a multinational training exercise taking place from June 8 to 27 in various locations throughout Bulgaria, Croatia and Romania.
