On 8th of May, Kornelia Ninova was elected as the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party. She is the first woman leader in the 125 year history of the party.
Ninova won the battle for the post at a second-round vote, with 46 votes ahead of outgoing leader Mihail Mikov. 395 of the delegates at the BSP congress (held on 7th and 8th of May) voted to support Ninova and 349 voted for Mihail Mikov.
After the vote, Ninova said that she would work towards a more united BSP and take a more hardline approach to the government.
