Minister of Regional Development: The gas interconnector is about 90% complete
The finishing works on the gas interconnector with Greece are probably 90% complete, Ivan Shishkov, caretaker minister of regional development and public works explained on November 23.
That is why the ministry held talks with the builder and the operator company to discuss what work remains to be completed. These include laying a reserve fibre optic cable, which is already in an advanced stage. This is expected to happen by the end of this year, and be commissioned in January. The CEO of ICGB, the company operating the gas interconnector, clarified that the functioning of the natural gas transmission through the pipe is not in jeopardy. According to the latest data, 1.5 bcm of blue fuel passes through the pipeline.
Along the 151-km route, revision measures and anti-corrosion work should be carried out to protect the environment but also the facility itself. There is also a problem with the road that leads to the pipeline, but it is related to the cadastre and the detailed spatial plan, not to its condition. The Minister assured that with the exception of this road, all other activities are being worked on until the project is fully completed.
Another meeting is to be held next week to clarify the construction deadlines.
