More archaeological finds at the ancient site of Perperikon
New discoveries in the midst of the archeological summer in Perperikon. Prof. Nikolai Ovcharov's team continues to uncover the episcopal residence at the foot of the hill.
Years ago, the discovery of a Christian complex from the 5th-6th century began there. A large part of the premises in the residence have already been discovered, where for the second year in a row archaeologists have discovered round mausoleums. This testifies that representatives of the aristocracy lived in this place.
"We have wonderful results. We have already come across the large episcopal residence from the 6th century. We have 120 finds - gold, silver coins, jewelry, etc. Perhaps one of the most interesting things is the necropolis of rotundas, mausoleums, which we will further analyse. And of course a unique find - this is the font from the 6th century, in which the baptism of infants took place," said Prof. Nikolai Ovcharov.
