More than 40% of Bulgarians would not report corruption, research

More than 40% of the Bulgarians would not report corruption to any institution, according to results of a research by Transparency International. The research into public attitudes for counteracting corruption has been conducted among 1,000 people and is funded by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

Almost 60% report political corruption, misuse of funds, and political appointments and appointements of relatives as a problem for them.

As a reason not to report, nearly 30% report fear of the consequences and the belief that officials are also corrupt.

According to 70% of respondents, corruption should be actively investigated at the highest political level.

However, if they have information about corrupt practices, almost 25% will report to the media, 20% will report them to the police and 10% will report to the Prosecutor’s office.
