Official: Broken safety rope was the cause of the death of Bulgarian climber Atanas Skatov on K2

Initially, the managers of the expedition said that it was a technical error Skatov made while changing ropes which led to the fatal fall.

The document issued by Skardu hospital clearly says that Atanas Skatov died while coming down from Camp 3 to K2 base camp due to breakage of safety rope.

For days, the organisers of the expedition assured everyone that it was not a broken rope, because the ropes were brand new, and they spread the version of Skatov's technical error.

Today, however, BNT was unable to contact the company's representative Kanushur Gurey.

Two days ago, the American Colin O'Brady, who is also part of the expedition, published the last photo and the last conversation with Skatov on social networks.

I took this picture of my friend Atanas Skatov at exactly 8:30 a.m. on Friday before I left Camp 3 to go down. An hour later, while doing the same, he fell and died. My worst fears came true. I still can't assimilate that he's gone. I'm waiting for him to enter the Base Camp tent and say a joke. His smile and jokes were contagious. We hugged, promising to have a drink at Base Camp one night when we both returned. This will be my last memory from my friend," O'Brady wrote.

According to the medical report, the Bulgarian died due to multiple head injuries and body fractures caused by the fall.

Atanas Skatov became the 86th victim of the mountain and the Karakorum peak.
