The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) on 20th of August filed a motion, backed by signatures of 61 MPs, demanding an extraordinary sitting of the Parliament on Wednesday over the case with the bankrupt insurance company "Olympic" and the crash of the Commercial Register. The reaction of Parliament’s Speaker, Tsveta Karayancheva, was very fast. She announced that she would convene an extraordinary sitting of Parliament on Tuesday at 13:00.
BSP described today’s decisions at the meeting with Prime Minister Borissov regarding the problems with the insurance company "Olympic" as unsatisfactory. They recall that the state has a key role in this regulated market and the Financial Supervision Commission has not exercised the necessary controls.
One of the possible solutions according to the left-wing opposition is the Guarantee Fund to return the money to the people who have purchased third-party liability insurance from the bankrupt company, the state to take over their rights and then to take legal action in Cyprus. BSP leader Kornelia Ninova asked why these steps were not taken and expressed doubts about the state of the Guarantee Fund.
