Outgoing PM Denkov: In the next nine months, we should walk the whole path of reforms
My resignation is not a political game, but fair play, he said
In the next nine months, we should walk the whole path of reforms that we outlined in June last year, Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov said at the Council of Ministers on March 5.
Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov has submitted his resignation
Earlier today, the Prime Minister deposited his resignation in the National Assembly registry department. He pointed out that with it he was extending another invitation for negotiations to GERB-UDF.
"This is not a political game, but keeping one's word, political fair play and respect for the citizens. Today I am fulfilling the commitment we made with the joint declaration we adopted on June 6, 2023," he said.
The government will continue to perform its duties and work until its new composition is elected, he assured.
"To increase incomes, to create a sustainable business environment, to strengthen the country's security and to strengthen Bulgaria's position in international relations."
The Prime Minister said regulators should be removed from "clan-family relationships" and not be used as bludgeons for raiding businesses.
"We need political courage to have independent judges and prosecutors, not ‘eight dwarfs’ and fake notaries in the justice system," Denkov said.
Denkov described the proposed WCC-DB memorandum as "a memo to remind what we agreed nine months ago and what remains to be done." That is why there were no names in the document, but specific reforms.
The expectation was that Denkov's resignation would be submitted tomorrow - March 6, when the current cabinet turns 9 months in office. Then the National Assembly will vote on it.
After that, the President, will hold consultations with all parliamentary parties and hand a mandate to the largest political force in the 49th Parliament - GERB-UDF.
