Over 15 addresses searched in connection with operation against cryptocurrency firm

The spokesperson of the Prosecutor General Siyka Mileva and the head of the Cybercrime Department Svetlyo Vassilev on January 12 gave details about the special operation of the Prosecutor's Office, the National Investigation Service, State Agency for National Security (SANS) and the Ministry of Interior against a cryptocurrency company.

The main organisers and activities are in Bulgaria. 300 people are working on this operation, 35 investigators, employees of SANS, Gendarmerie and Sofia directorate of the Ministry of Interior. The pre-trial proceedings are under the direction of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, said spokesperson for the Prosecutor General Siyka Mileva.

A client of the platform who transferred cryptocurrency has been officially declared an organiser of terrorist activity. It is yet to be specified who will be indicted. More than 15 addresses are being searched and more people are being identified, Svetlyo Vassilev said.

An international operation against a large-scale scheme for financial crimes, money laundering and violations of international sanctions against Russia is underway in Sofia, BNT learned today. According to BNT sources, the company in question is NEXO.

Operation against crypto company Nexo in Sofia

Prosecutors, investigators from the National Investigation Service and SANS officers, together with foreign agents, have begun searching the Bulgarian offices of the company, which trades in cryptocurrencies around the world.

The company operated from the Bulgarian capital Sofia, and depositors were invited to invest in bitcoins and other types of cryptocurrencies, with promises for high returns.
