Parliament's Speaker Rossen Zhelyazkov: Thera are no unresolved bilateral relations between Bulgaria and India
The Speaker of Bulgaria’s Parliament, Rossen Zhelyazkov, and the delegation he leads, on January 5, talked with the leaders of the Indian Parliament about promoting investments and creating thousands of jobs. India is the first stop of the Asian tour of the Bulgarian delegation.
There are no unresolved bilateral relations between Bulgaria and India, Parliament’s Speaker, Rossen Zhelyazkov, said during his visit to New Delhi. He held talks with the Speakers of the Upper and Lower Houses of the Parliament and they discussed the deepening of investments in the context of the expected signing of a free trade agreement between the EU and India. The volume of India’s investments in Bulgaria stands at hundreds of millions.
The role of Asia in the coming years will grow tremendously and will be one of the main geopolitical and geo-economic players in the world order, the Speaker of the Parliament Rossen Zhelyazkov pointed out:
"We have the task to encourage investments and there are quite a few investments of Indian companies in Bulgaria and quite a few investments of Bulgarian companies in India. The third largest Internet provider in India is a Bulgarian company. Nearly one million households are supplied with internet. And this is the way we should look for new markets and new opportunities. The volume of Indian investment in nominal terms is hundreds of millions."
Zhelyazkov pointed out that the purpose of the meetings is to restore the intensity of relations between Bulgaria and India, which are traditional but have been put on the back burner in recent years.
He said that a programme for cooperation in science and technology should be signed this year to allow the resumption of the Bulgarian course at Delhi University and provide an opportunity to promote investment in the context of the expected signing of the EU-India free trade agreement.
“India is seeking Bulgaria's support for the solar alliance, the disaster and crisis resilience infrastructure initiative, which Bulgaria should support," he said.
Rossen Zhelyazkov paid tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi monument.
The Asian tour of the Bulgarian parliamentary delegation continues in Vietnam.
