Parliament voted out Rosen Zhelyazkov as Speaker
With 129 votes in favour and 103 against on April 25, the MPs voted to remove Rosen Zhelyazkov (of GERB-UDF) as Parliament Speaker.
Before the vote, Zhelyazkov thanked and asked for an apology from anyone who felt offended. At the beginning of his speech he shared a thought with the MPs "Sometimes you have to be silent to make yourself heard".
The decision to remove Zhelyazkov from the post came on the penultimate day of the 49th Parliament.
His dismissal was proposed by MPs of “We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria” (WCC-DB) and BSP for Bulgaria. The reasons for asking his dismissal were his overall behaviour as the head of the institution and for systematic failure to implement the legislative programme.
According to WCC-DB, Zhelyazkov abused power and authority, and worked in the interests of the political bloc GERB-MRF.
Yesterday, the removal of the Speaker of Parliament was also demanded by "Vazrazhdane" party with a specific motive - the vote of no confidence in the caretaker government was not allowed, arguing that it does not comply with the Constitution.
