The South Bulgarian city of Plovdiv started the preparation for the forthcoming sport fishing world championship. One tonne of carp was released in the Rowing base in Plovdiv on 2nd of August for the purposes of the competition.
38 countries will take part in the most attractive fishing competition, which will begin on 15th of September.
The fish diversity in the canal of the rowing base was further enriched by adding several hundred of carp fish to the already existing schools of bleak, chub, grass carp, rudd and bream.
Georgi Tityukov, the deputy mayor of Plovdiv said that the facility was filled with fish several times for the forthcoming completion. “So far, we have released 5 and a half tonnes of fish, today we released another tonne and 2 more tonnes will be released at a later stage,” he explained.
The carp released by representatives of the Bulgarian sport fishing federation weigh between 0.800 and 1.5 kg. By mid-September, they will adapt to the new environment and start eating actively. They are expected to make the competition spectacular and unpredictable.
Georgi Mihailov, chair of the Bulgarian sport fishing federation explains that because there is no new fish coming, the existing fish become the racing fish, they learn to get off the hook and get back into the water. It is not so easy to be caught again, because they were caught once and it is not so simple to make them bite a bait again, “he said.
He said that that the whole world fishing elite will gather in Plovdiv. The teams of Greece and Cyprus will participate for the first time. So far, the two countries had not participated in world fishing competition in fresh waters.
