The participation of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the videoconference meeting of the members of the European Council on March 25 began.

The talks of the European leaders today focus on the COVID-19 pandemic, the European Union's relations with Russia and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In the evening, the heads of state and government of the EU member states will talk to US President Joe Biden, who will present his vision for the future of the EU-US relations.

Tomorrow, the European leaders will discuss the single market, industrial policy, digitalisation and the economy.

At today's videoconference, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov will once again express his full support for the common approach the EU has chosen to provide vaccines and will thank the European Commission and personally EC President Ursula von der Leyen for the great efforts they have made in this direction. Thanks to this common approach in the EU, all Member States have equal access to the vaccines that are so necessary to restore normal life.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister will emphasize the importance of strict compliance with the terms of the contracts by the pharmaceutical companies. No compromise can be made with the deliveries of the ordered quantities and terms.

All Member States of the Union are unanimous that there must be no breach of the terms of the contracts, as otherwise obstacles will be created to the protection of the life and health of all European citizens.

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister will emphasize to the EU leaders that solidarity and readiness for concessions are the way to the right solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, it is crucial that Member States are united and act quickly and effectively to find solutions to the pandemic.

He will point out the position of Bulgaria in support of the introduction of a "digital green certificate".

The Bulgarian Prime Minister will emphasize that such a certificate should facilitate the free movement of citizens and not lead to the creation of additional obstacles, privileges, restrictions and discrimination, which does not correspond to the rights and values ​​of the EU.

The certificate will enable every European citizen to indicate whether he or she has been vaccinated against COVID-19, whether he or she has had the disease, or has a negative PCR test for coronavirus.
