PM Glavchev on the crisis in the Middle East: No threat to Bulgaria at the moment

We have identified measures for potential risks that are not currently a fact, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said after a meeting of the Security Council at the Council of Ministers on October 2. It discussed the risks for the country in connection with the crisis in the Middle East.

"There is no actual threat to Bulgaria at the moment, we discussed potential ones that may arise and how to counter them," caretaker Prime Minister said.

He explained that he had made a proposal for Bulgaria to express a position for de-escalation in the Middle East conflict.

"We have united to call for de-escalation in the Middle East," Glavchev said.

The caretaker Minister of Interior also explained that all measures have been taken.

"We have a low threat level. At the moment we have no data from the Bulgarian security services, from the Ministry of Interior, from foreign partner services, about threats to the security environment and citizens in our country. Nevertheless, we have taken all the necessary preventive measures, we have strengthened our presence at strategic locations, in front of the Israeli Embassy and at public events with similar focus, so as to ensure the security of our citizens," said caretaker Minister of Interior Atanas Ilkov.

All potential threats have been discussed, I stress - potential threats, not real ones. It is to eliminate the potential possibilities and measures were taken," Glavchev said.

He hopes that by the time the Consultative Council on National Security convenes on Friday, there will be no new escalation of tensions.
