Police disrupts criminal group distributing synthetic drugs to children
Five charged and detained for up to 72 hours after special operation in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv
A specialised police operation by officers of the Directorate General for Combating Organised Crime disrupted the activity of an organised criminal group for production, possession and distribution of a new type of high-risk drugs among minors. The operation was carried out on the territory of Plovdiv on 6 August.
Searches were carried out in 6 places. About 450 grams of synthetic hashish and substances used for the production of the narcotic substance, as well as two electronic scales were found and seized. The type and quantities of the detected psychoactive substances were identified as high-risk synthetic cannabinoids.
According to the initial data, they were intended for distribution in Plovdiv and the region in the form of "synthetic hashish", mainly among juveniles. According to experts, one gram of the substance is traded on the black market for around 50 BGN.
Six people have been detained for up to 24 hours, and five of them have been ordered to be detained in custody for up to 72 hours by a decision of a prosecutor from the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office. They have been charged.
The detected synthetic narcotic substances are characterized by a strong addictive effect and extremely acute and irreversible damage to the central nervous system and the mental health. Their use leads to the development of a lasting dependence within a few weeks, according to the experts of the police.
