President Radev discussed the situation in the Middle East with the Emir of Qatar
Bulgaria’s Head of State, Rumen Radev and the Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani discussed the current security environment in the Middle East.
They had a phone conversation today, January 26. Topics of the conversation were diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region and the possibilities for ensuring free navigation in the Red Sea.
The Bulgarian head of state and Sheikh Hamad al-Thani shared the view that the leading challenge, in terms of ensuring lasting peace and sustainable stability in this key region for global security, remains the unresolved Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The assessment was also shared that the only lasting and generally acceptable solution to this conflict can and should be sought on the basis of strict compliance with international law and implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.
Concern was also expressed over the growing risks of uncontrolled regional escalation of the conflict. In this context, and as a first step towards achieving lasting peace and prosperity for the countries of the region, the need for the earliest possible release of all conflict-related hostages and an end to all acts of violence and the use of brute force was highlighted.
