President Radev in Baku: Climate change requires urgent action and attention from all of us
Head of State says extreme weather events threaten not only people and their livelihoods, but regional and global peace and security as well
President Rumen Radev is the head of the Bulgarian delegation that is participating in the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. The delegation includes the caretaker Ministers of Energy Vladimir Malinov and of Innovation Rosen Karadimov, representatives of state institutions and business.
"I am glad to see so many people at the Bulgarian pavilion, I want to welcome you all. For the second time in a row, our country is participating with its own pavilion at a climate conference and this is a clear demonstration of Bulgaria's ambitions to actively participate in climate diplomacy and to make a real contribution to the fight against climate change. Climate change now threatens not only people and their livelihoods, not only nature and its diversity, but also peace and security regionally and globally. Extreme weather events, from floods to forest fires and droughts, are becoming more frequent and increasingly devastating. We have already seen that, in the space of just a few months, floods have claimed from a few dozen lives in Bosnia and Herzegovina to hundreds of victims in Spain. This critical situation requires urgent action, it requires integrated and effective solutions, but most of all it requires attention from all of us, from high political level to expert level. And I believe that the way to achieve sustainable solutions in the fight against climate change is through the exchange of experience and the transfer of knowledge. Cooperation between countries is crucial to achieve success in these common efforts and especially to solve the big challenge - how to increase competitiveness in the transition to a climate-neutral economy," said Rumen Radev, President of Bulgaria.
