President Rumen Radev congratulated the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, which today, September 26, unanimously adopted the declaration condemning Skopje's hate speech. According to the Head of State, in no case should Bulgaria descend to the level of the events and comments in North Macedonia. From New York, Radev called on the Bulgarian politicians for moderation and more restrained behaviour.

“First, I would like to congratulate the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Bulgarian Parliament for the declaration that was adopted today. This is the way Bulgaria should treat this issue. We should not in any way descend to the level of the events and comments that have unfolded in our south-western neighbour. Bulgaria should take a sensible stance. I call on all Bulgarian politicians to exercise restraint. After all, we have been a Member State of the European Union for many years," he said.

Radev commented that these are "logical consequences of what is happening in the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania and of the policy of the government in Skopje, as well as of the path they have chosen".

“We have long warned, ever since this government came to power, that there are deficits in terms of knowledge of international law, in general, about all the specifics of the path towards European integration, as well as deficits in our relations. Bulgaria will continue to help, but there has to be an awareness of what the EU means and how it has to work in order for the Republic of North Macedonia to achieve this objective it has set. Because so far the Skopje government is going in the opposite direction. And I hope that, especially after the news that there will be decoupling, they will draw the necessary conclusions and take the right direction. The only right one - is first of all to include the Bulgarians in the Constitution because this is set out in the EU legal framework and it must be respected," Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said.
