By his decree, on the basis of Article 75 of the Constitution, Bulgaria’s Head of State, Rumen Radev, convenes the newly elected 50th Parliament for its first sitting at 9.00 a.m. on 19 June 2024. This was announced by the President's press secretariat on June 17.
Following the changes in the Constitution last year, the 49th Parliament is not dissolved, but it continues to function until the newly elected Parliament is sworn in. A hot political week is expected. Today, the party which won the largest share of votes in the snap elections, GERB-UDF is expected to send invitation letters to the other parliamentary parties to start consultations with the negotiating team - Temenuzhka Petkova, Raya Nazaryan and Denitsa Sacheva. Logically, the first party invited for consultations will be the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, (MRF), as it is second in the elections. “We Continue the change-Democratic Bulgaria” refused in advance to appear for consultations.
