President summons security services chiefs over Red Sea situation
President Rumen Radev on January 12 held a meeting with the heads of the security services to discuss the situation in the Red Sea region and the situation of the Bulgarian sailors on the detained ships in the region.
The Head of State held talks with the heads of the State Intelligence Agency, Antoan Gechev; the State Agency for National Security, Plamen Tonchev and of the Military Intelligence Service, Brigadier General Venelin Venev, on the current security environment in the Red Sea region.
During the meeting, the heads of the security services assessed the possible risks of escalation of tensions in the region, as well as the development of the situation with the Bulgarian citizens, part of the crews of the Galaxy Leader and Ruen ships, which were hijacked at the end of 2023.
The participants in the meeeting also discussed the Middle East conflict, the security of shipping in general and diplomatic actions and coordination with partner countries so as to ensure the security of Bulgarians in the region.
