Prosecutor’s office: 24 pre-trial proceedings initiated in relation to the electoral process
The Prosecutor's office on July 6 announced that 24 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated for offering of economic benefit in order to persuade people to exercise their right to vote in favour of a certain candidate, political party or coalition.
More than 200 files have been opened on the basis of signals received from members of the public, State Agency for National Security and the Ministry of Interior. The supervising prosecutors have instructed the police to carry out checks to clarify the allegations in the signals.
The Ministry of Interior reported that from the beginning of the month until yesterday, inspections were carried out at over 2,000 places, for which there was information that buying and selling of votes was taking palce.
Nearly 7,000 people from the criminal circles were checked. 644 people have been identified who have established themselves as local leaders of groups influencing the election process. Nearly 700 were detained for up to 24 hours.
