Protesters outside Bulgaria’s Parliament call for government resignation

The protest outside the building of Bulgaria’s Parliament has been going on for 5 hours on July 20. The protesters demand the resignation of the government and the chief prosecutor.

They blocked the traffic in the morning. As at 12:00, the section of the road outside the building was still blocked.

At the moment, the protest is proceeding calmly. The perimeter around the building of Parliament is cut off for passage by the law enforcement authorities.

Arman Babikyan, organiser of the protest: Every minute we become more and more and yes, we will surround the Parliament, no matter how many police officers have been called to do their job, because we did not come for them, but for those inside. We did not come here because of someone's vote of no confidence, our vote of no confidence has been running for 12th day on the streets of Sofia. And it is it that will throw these people out of power.

"We must use every possible approach to be heard and to be understood by the prime minister, because he clearly still does not understand that in fact the whole of Bulgaria is already against this government," said protesters.

"There must be elections until the whole political system is cleared," a protester said.

Although the no-confidence motion debate is over, the protest in front of Parliament remains.

The informal organisers of the protest announced that it will continue tomorrow, starting at 7 am. The vote of no confidence will be voted in Parliament at 11:30 am.
