Renovation of Kalotina check point has been completed, number of crossing lanes increased
The renovation of Kalotina check point, at Bulgaria’s order with Serbia, has been completed. The lanes for the passage of cars have been increased from 17 to 22.
There are also more lanes for buses and trucks. Thus, the capacity of the border crossing point has been increased by 30%, which should significantly reduce wait times and queues in the busiest periods.
The other border crossings with neighbouring countries are to be renovated, with the biggest expansion being at Kapitan Andreevo – the busiest land border crossing point in Europe.
Bulgaria’s border crossings are designed to handle the passage of two and a half million vehicles a year, and the numbers have gone up to currently four and a half million cars, buses and trucks. It is expected to reach 10 million transits through our country in 5 years.
