Scandal between the parties supporting the cabinet over extraordinary sitting of the Parliament

A controversy occurred between the parties supporting the cabinet over the request of GERB and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) to schedule an extraordinary sitting of Parliament on Friday.

It will discuss the President's veto on the amendments to the energy law. Today, October 24, the We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (WCC-DB) opposed the sitting because, in their words, it could be used as a pre-election platform.

Yesterday, there was complete unanimity among the parties supporting the government that there will be an extraordinary sitting of Parliament on Friday to consider the veto on the energy law, as well as the part that will oblige Lukoil to give the state the unpaid taxes, This morning WCC-DB demanded that no such sitting be called.

"The strongest reason to refuse such a sitting is the argument that the tribune of the National Assembly should not be used for election campaign in the last day. We call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rosen Zhelyazkov, not to schedule an extraordinary sitting. All these problems, which colleagues think should be discussed on Friday, there is no obstacle to this happening on the first day after the second round," said General Atanas Atanasov, co-chair of WCC-DB.

"I urge to work on these important issues, we have to collect the taxes from Lukoil, we have to try to bring the money back to the people, but this should not be done hurriedly, for a day, but to work with the real experts from the Ministry of Energy," clarified Kiril Petkov, Co-Chair of WCC-DB.

An answer to these arguments was given by GERB MP Delyan Dobrev.

"There will be an extraordinary sitting, it will be scheduled, there will be an agenda. From this meeting it will be clear which parliamentary groups are at the Lukoil Neftochim feeder, which ministers, which cabinet members are at the feeder. Those who do not come to defend the interest of Bulgarian citizens, obviously do not think about the people, but think about the interest of a private company," said Dobrev of GERB-UDF.

Dobrev also explained that on Friday an additional item of the agenda will be submitted, which aims to take away the monopoly of "Lukoil"-Neftohim on fuel depots and to transfer it to the state reserve.
