Sharp increase in Covid-19 new cases in Bulgaria, Varna and Bourgas classified as dark red zones
Bulgaria reported a sharp rise of 6,252 new cases of Covid-19 for the past 24 hours on January 5.
Bourgas and Varna are the two new districts in the country that have been designated as dark red zones, meaning a morbidity rate of 500 or more infections per 100,000 population on a 14-day basis.
In Varna, the number of infected is growing faster and there is readiness to increase the number of hospital beds for treatment of Covid-19.
In Bourgas, 85% of the beds in the Covid wards are occupied. According to health authorities, additional beds may be needed by the end of the week. There is also an increase in the number of children admitted in the infectious ward of the largest hospital in Bourgas. There are currently 11 children undergoing treatment there.
The convening of the municipal pandemic headquarters is being considered to discuss possible new measures.
