In view of the increased public interest in the meeting of Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov with the businessman Sasho Donchev in the office of businessman Georgi Gergov, the Inspectorate to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) reported on 9th of May that a probe was initiated to look into the case.
The administrative proceeding is in accordance with Chapter Nine, Section I (b) of the Judicial System Act (JSA) - Checks on integrity and conflict of interests and on the establishment of actions affecting the prestige of the judiciary and checks related to breaches of the Independence of judges, prosecutors and investigators. It was initiated based on an alert received by the Inspectorate to the SJC.
On 27th of April, the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) refused to investigate the meeting Donchev – Tsatsarov – Gergov. The SJC majority rejected the proposal for a probe into the case, which was tabled by 6 members of the council.
