Sofia City Council allocated BGN 15 million for public transport in the capital
BGN 15 million was allocated by the Sofia City Council as a loan for the companies "Autotransport" and "Elektrotransport" after the accounts of the public transport were frozen last week. BGN 11 million will be allocated to Autotransport and BGN 4 million to Elektrotransport. The proposal was adopted with 52 votes in favour, 0 against and 0 abstentions.
An additional 3 million is expected to be allocated for a bonus system for public transport employees, but it will be voted on with the budget update.
The accounts of Stolichen Avtotransport EAD were frozen last week. Deputy Mayor for Finance, Ivan Vasilev, said there was a risk that Sofia's public transport may be stopped. Sofia Mayor, Vasil Terziev, added that over the years the capital's bus transport has accumulated 20 million in liabilities.
The accounts were frozen due to a project for the renovation of a dormitory public transport employees. The renovation was made in 2020 and, according to We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (Save Sofia)councillors, was carried out at prices much higher than the market prices at the time.
