Sofia hospitals halt non-urgent scheduled admissions

A record number of nearly 7,000 new Covid-19 cases for the past 24 hours was reported in Bulgaria on October 27.

21 out of the total 28 districts in the country are classified as Covid-19 dark red zones. In 5 of them, the incidence is over 1,000 infections per 100,000 people.

Sofia has only 45 Covid-19 intensive care beds still available, but if they are occupied, patients will be redirected to neighbouring districts.

Non-urgent scheduled admissions to hospitals in Sofia are halted.

The situation with the spread of the infection in the country is becoming increasingly alarming. There are not enough beds to treat patients with coronavirus. The worst situation is in Sofia and Varna.

Health authorities announced today that medical professionals from small Covid-free hospitals will be seconded to the Covid zones of the larger hospitals. In addition to beds, there is a shortage of doctors, which is everywhere, especially anaesthesiologists.
