Sofia municipal council on January 28 adopted the government’s rescue plan for Pernik aimed at solving the water supply problem in the town. The plan was supported by 56 votes. One abstained.
The government’s proposal is to supply water for Pernik from Belmeken dam, via Beli Iskar dam and the water supply network of the capital Sofia.
Thus the residents of Pernik will get drinking water after a pipeline of 13.5 km is built from Malo Buchino to Moshino neighbourhood.
The mayor of Penik who also attended today’s meeting said that this was the only possible and most correct way to save the town from the water shortage problem.
After today's vote, the construction of the pipeline from Malo Buchino to Pernik can begin.

Former Minister of Environment and Water, Neno Dimov, resigned after prosecutors arrested and charged him with criminal mismanagement.
