Some of the Bulgarians evacuated from Gaza returned home
A man with Bulgarian citizenship and his family, who managed to leave Gaza and return home, arrived at Sofia Airport on November 3. They are part of the group of 36 Bulgarian citizens and their family members who were taken out of Gaza two days ago.
A very emotional meeting with tears of joy. We witnessed this about an hour ago when a family of a man with Bulgarian citizenship, his pregnant wife and their 4-year-old girl arrived.
The three had been trying to leave Gaza since day one of the escalating conflict. And so until today, when they are now on Bulgarian soil. The man's mother, who is Bulgarian, told us something very touching. When they spoke on the phone, every night, they were saying farewell, because they did not know if they would be tomorrow for them. Today, for the first time in nearly a month, they feel happiness.
"I thank the Bulgarian diplomats who helped the Bulgarians in Palestine and made sure this evacuation took place," the man said.
"As you can see we are alive. I can't imagine that we managed to get out alive. We escaped, but our parents, relatives - we know nothing about them. No phones, no internet, no contact with them," a woman from those arriving said.
Denkov and Gabriel will visit Israel on 6 November
In fact, this family with Bulgarian roots is the first, evacuated from Gaza, who managed to arrive in Bulgaria. On 1 November, 36 Bulgarian citizens were removed from the Gaza Strip. They are expected to arrive in Bulgaria in stages.
