Students from 5th to 12th grade in Sofia switch to online learning; What is the decision for primary schools?

In-person school classes in Sofia are suspended as of tomorrow, October 21.

In a meeting of the Sofia Operational Headquarters, Dr. Dancho Penchev, director of Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate, reported that the registered 14-day infection rate in Sofia is 812 per 100,000 people.

In compliance with the Order by the caretaker Minister of Health that was published yesterday, October 19, in-person attendance classes in schools are to be suspended as of October 21.

The current statistics for classes under quarantine are as follows: 4% quarantined from primary school, 7% from junior high school, and 8% from high school.

Based on the statistics, as well as the short notice for the Order’s implementation, the Sofia Headquarters proposed to the caretaker Minister of Health and the caretaker Minister of Education that the students in primary schools in Sofia remain in the classrooms at least until the end of the week, while everyone else switches to remote learning in a digital environment.

Sofia Municipality clarifies that this will give the parents of the youngest students, who cannot be left alone, the opportunity to make the appropriate arrangements.
