The beginning of the end of the 50th Parliament: What the parties are aiming for
Start of the autumn session of the Parliament in election campaign conditions.
At the start of the new session, the parties talked about quelling tensions. And while some are experiencing intra-party conflicts, others are demonstrating unity.
GERB called on the parties not to turn their problems into problems of the state. "We Continue the Change", "Yes, Bulgaria" and DSB remain together, but did not say clearly how they will draw up the lists of candidates. The programme is more important for them.
According to Delyan Peevski, the other coalition around the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) is illegitimate. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) believe they need a restart without more assembliages. “There is Such a People” stated: “Today is the beginning of the end of the 50th Parliament.”
The new session of Parliament was opened by the 50th National Assembly and will be closed by the 51st. The GERB-UDF is aiming to reduce tension and ensure that there is no adventurous legislation.
"We observe with concern the processes of split in other parties. We will not comment, but we urge them not to turn their problems into problems of the state. What has been happening over the past seven days undermines the prestige of the institutions," said Temenuzhka Petkova of GERB-UDF.
We Continue the Change, "Yes, Bulgaria" and DSB remain together. They set themselves a goal: An end to the political crisis. But they do not say clearly how they will draw up the lists.
Bozhidar Bozhanov, Yes Bulgaria: "The principle will be to attract as many votes as possible."
Kiril Petkov, co-chair of the WCC: "Together we are stronger".
Atanas Atanasov, DSB: "The coalition is monolithic and diverse - some louder, others quieter. We need to focus on the agenda, not on the daily box-ticking."
Peevski: There is one MRF, there is one legitimate coalition, this is ours
Central Election Commission decided to accept the papers from both MRF factions simultaneously
According to Delyan Peevski, the coalition of Ahmed Dogan's loyalists is illegitimate.
"There is one MRF. I don't know what this opposition is. There is one MRF. There are defectors. The Central Election Commission (CEC) made a super circus. Two representatives, who are our former representatives, made this circus, which is humiliating and if we had a president he should have already dismissed them," said Delyan Peevski, chairman of the MRF parliamentary group.
BNT: How did you decide on the two formations you are in coalition with - did you seek them out, did they seek you out and why these two formations?
Delyan Peevski: "We have decided to work with them, this is our decision."
For the BSP, the series of crises has led to distrust of everyone in the plenary.
"We are on the verge of the collapse of the party system. Have we formed a government - no. We need a restart of the whole system in Bulgaria. No more assemblages, no more petty games," added Borislav Gutsanov, BSP.
According to There is Such a People, the choice of the vote will be between fraud and justice.
"Today is the beginning of the end of the 50th National Assembly. The country is going to elections. 120 million of your money will be spent and again we will listen to promises that most parties will not fulfill," said Stanislav Balabanov of There is Such a People.
Thus, at the beginning of the political season, the election campaign is felt more and more strongly.
