The first “30km/h” speed limit zone in Sofia starts operating as of today

Sofia municipality introduces a speed limit of 30 km/h for drivers in the centre of the city.

The first “30km/h zone” in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia becomes operational as of today, February 10, and will include the small streets between the boulevards "Prague", "Skobelev", "Vitosha" and "Pencho Slaveykov".

It is aimed to provide safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists and to encourage the use of other forms of transport.

Residents living in the area are supportive of the initiative, but have doubts whether the motorists will comply with the new rule. They want more attention to be paid to the infrastructure in downtown Sofia.

The next 30km/h speed limit area will be between “Alabin” street, “Patriarch Evtimyi” and “Hristo Botev” boulevard.
