The increase in the price of electricity from 1 July will be about 2%, utility regulator said
The change in the price of electricity from 1 July this year will be about 2%, the head of Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, Ivan Ivanov, told BNT on May 22. He urged to stop speculating on the price of electricity.
"Bulgarian citizens should not feel anxiety and worry about the price from July 1. Since the experts have already outlined the framework, I can tell you that the average change in the price of electricity from the first of July 2024, will be about 2%. Calculations are still being made, so we cannot say with precision," Ivan Ivanov said.
The price change will be different for the three companies operating in the country. Ivanov pointed out that the 2% increase is lower than the rate of inflation for the past year, and that this is the first case in recent years with such a small price change.
The head of the utilities regulator also assured that the price of electricity from Kozloduy NPP will remain unchanged next year. Kozloduy NPP's initial application to the EWRC envisaged a 30% increase. However, it was subsequently withdrawn and a second application was received on Monday with a price similar to last year's.
"Last year it wanted a price of 69.7 BGN, this year - 69.14 BGN. After asking for the same price, the review made by the commission's experts shows that there is no reason for the EWRC to decide on a price different from last year's," Ivanov said.
This year, the price of electricity from Kozloduy NPP will have only minor deviations, he added.
