The protest of TPP Maritsa 3 is cancelled, the plant resumes work

The protest of Maritsa 3" thermal power plant (TPP) scheduled for today, May 12, in front of the building of the Ministry of Environment and Water has been cancelled, CITUB trade union organisation announced.

The reason is the decision of the Regional Inspectorate of Environmental Protection in Haskovo to restore the operation of the plant.

Workers at the closed Maritsa 3 power plant in Dimitrovgrad were planning to express their dissatisfaction in Sofia today over the forced shutdown of the plant.

The plant was shut down on April 21 by the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Haskovo because of a series of cases of dangerous air pollution with sulphur dioxide, above the permissible standards, non-compliance with the conditions of the complex permit.

TPP Maritsa 3's request to suspend the order, which provided for the closure of the enterprise's operations was rejected by the Haskovo Administrative Court.
