Three Bulgarians arrested in Italy for stealing bank cards

Authorities in Italy uncovered a group of three Bulgarians who were involved in theft of bank cards.

The group of two women and one man, whose names have not been released, operated in supermarkets in Ancona and Falconara.

The 43-year-old woman, identified as the group's ringleader, was the most skillful in the thefts, assisted by another woman, a year younger, and a 38-year-old man.

They used the stolen debit cards and drained the victims' accounts. The latest case was with the bank account of a 79-year-old man.

Upon the detention of the thieves, the police found them in possession of serious sums of more than €2,000 in cash and the stolen debit cards, which were subsequently returned to the elderly man and his wife.

The pickpockets had hoped not to be detected because they had no local address, but CCTV and bank surveillance contributed, along with complaints and descriptions from victims and witnesses, to their capture.

They were charged with theft and misuse of debit and credit cards.

According to the regional newspaper IlRestodelCarlino, the Prosecutor's office in Ancona has released them, but further punitive measures by the judicial authorities are possible.
