Three checkpoints on Bulgarian-Greek border remain closed to traffic due to snow and bad weather

Kilometres-long queue of lorries has been fored at Bulgaria’s border with Greece after bad weather caused closure of the check points. Last night, February 14, the Greek authorities started to let heavy gods vehicles to go through the border, but at 4.00 in the morning on February 15 the traffic was stopped again. Many drivers spent the night in their lorries with freezing temperatures. The queue of lorries is about 3 km.

The road is open for vehicles entering Bulgaria. The border checkpoints "Kapitan Petko Voyvoda" and "Ilinden - Exohi" remain closed, and at Ilinden checkpoint traffic is prohibited for all motor vehicles.

There are restrictions to traffic of lorries weighing more than 12 tonnes through the mountain passes Prevala, Techinsko and Rozhen.

The border checkpoints at Kulata and Ilinden remain closed on the Greek side, and traffic at Gueshevo has been stopped, said Eng. Ivanichkov.

According to him, this has created a certain difficulty in cleaning the roads in the area of ​​the border checkpoints, as the heavy goods vehicles were waiting on the Bulgarian territory.
