Three detained on suspicion of vote trading

Three people were detained for suspected vote trading during a special police raid in Bourgas district on October 7. Those arrested are from three different municipalities.

The police officers targeted small commercial establishments - in Karnobat, Grozden and Drachevo villages, where they found notebooks with names.

"We identified lists including a large number of persons - more than 50 people. Against the name of each person, there are amounts marked, which accumulate in the form of a credit, with a certain limit. The payment of the loan can be assumed that it will be used to buy a vote for a particular political party," explained Commissioner Marin Dimitrov, head of the Burgas Security Police.

The police in Burgas clarified that they currently have data that a vote is traded between 100 and 150 BGN. This was also the limit for the loan in the outlets where the police checks took place. Small outlets for quick loans are also being checked, where the vote trading scheme is identical - vote in exchange for debt forgiveness.

Those arrested in today's raid have no criminal records and have not been previously arrested for vote trading. They will remain in custody for 24 hours.
