Traffic is partially stopped on main road E-79 because of a fire in the Kresna Gorge
A new wildfire broke out in the Kresna Gorge, very close to the town of Kresna, southwestern Bulgaria. Because of the rapid growth of the fire, traffic on one of the lanes of the main road E-79 is temporarily stopped, the police told BNT. If the situation becomes more complicated, the road is likely to be closed completely.
The fire broke out in the forest near the main road to Greece. The fire is very close to the road and the railway line. Initially the smoke along the road was serious and columns of cars were formed. Several fire engines were deployed along the road and were on standby to prevent the fire from crossing the track.
Eventually the wind reversed direction and began to spread the smoke in the opposite direction, towards the mountains.
At the same time, a fire broke out at a petrol station on the main road E-79 near Blagoevgrad. Dry grasses and bushes are burning in the area about 500 metres away from the place. The smoke is noticeable, but the fire has been localized. A fire engine and several firefighters remain on the scene.
