Traffic police starts operation to check adherence to speed limits and pedestrians safety rules
The traffic police are launching an operation across the country to monitor adherence to speed limits and whether drivers giveway to pedestrians in designated areas. The operation will run until January 13. In different areas of the country, the police will be checking for various violations based on analyzes for the past year.
For Sofia, Plovdiv and Sliven, the operation is aimed at controlling drivers who do not let pedestrians on the crossings and take their right of way. It will also be monitored whether the pedestrians themselves cross the roads at the designated places.
In Veliko Turnovo, the operation will focus on the speed at which lorries are travelling because they were involved in serious accidents during the same period last year. In relation to complicating situation and the snow predicted by the weather forecasts, the Traffic Police called on the drivers to prepare for driving in winter conditions.
According to the traffic police, in 2020, the number of serious road accidents with fatalities is by about 15 – 17% less compared to 2019.
